Changgyeonggung Palace (Historic Site No. 123) was renovated to its original state in 1987 in order to eliminate all vestiges of Japanese colonial rule. This palace was once demoted from "gung" (palace) to "won" (garden) by the Japanese authorities, who also converted part of it into a zoo. Honghwamun Gate is the main gate and Myeongjeongjeon is the main hall (and the oldest of the Joseon Dynasty). Also within the compound are Tongmyeongjeon Hall, Yanghwadang Hall and Chundangji Pond. The palace is connected to the royal shrine Jongmyo by a bridge.
